Does kelp flow downstream?

KELPEX is collaborating with two other projects at Norwegian Institute of Water Research (KelpPro and KelpFate) to develop particle transportation model that simulates the movement of drift material out of kelp forests in the Malangen fjord. This should help us understand how the resource subsidy reaches deep subtidal and deep sea communities. Movement of detached kelp is a key gap in our knowledge, and these models are a first step towards understanding mechanistic links between the ocean environment and transport of this material.
